Oil pan removal
Oil pan removal
Does anyone have a guide/video on how to remove the oil pan on a 01 3.0 automatic trans.
min trying to replace the gasket but I’ve heard it can be difficult with the vehicles because the trans is in the way. I want to avoid messing with the trans at all costs.

Many would like a how-to or video on doing that, lol
Problem is that inside the oil pan is the oil pick up which is at the lowest point inside the pan
So you need to drop the oil pan down low enough so the front of the pan can slide out backwards clearing the oil pickup
You can remove motor mounts and jack up the engine but transmission will hit the "tunnel"(body) and can go no higher

would there be any safe alternative to stop a small leak coming from the oil pan then since the job seems extreme?

Depends on where the leak is
If its on the side then you can loosen the pan so you can put some RTV(silicone) in the gap and then re-tighten the pan
If its at the front or back then it could be main seal so much harder to repair
Main seals are fast leaks, unlike valve cover or oil pan leaks which are gravity leaks, few drops now and then not fast
Valve covers and oil pan gaskets just have oil splashed around on them so can be steady but not alot of oil
Main seals have pressure behind them so can leak alot of oil fairly fast

the leak is very slow. I would say one or two drops a day when sitting. This weekend I’m going to clean up the trans and oil pan. It’s caked with old oil.
If the leak is slow like that is it major? Could I just ride it out with a slow oil leak.
I bought some spray seal off Amazon and I’ll try to put a little where I think it’s coming from.

On a truck with a torsion bar suspension (4x4 and 01+Edge/Sport models) and a 3.0, the oil pan WILL come off without jacking up the engine or removing the transmission. I've done it twice now on my 2003 Edge model. On 4x4 trucks, you may have to drop the front differential out to get enough clearance to remove the oil pan.
However, I don't know whether it's possible on a coil spring truck (4x2) with a 3.0 engine. I have one but haven't had to change the oil pan gasket and so I haven't attempted to remove it's oil pan.
