Oil recommendations?

Recently purchased a 2001 Ranger Edge 3.0 v6 previously owned by the county with 60k original miles. Looks like it was sat due to the transmission going out. The person I got it from replaced the transmission and ac system. I've e replaced the radiator, everything else seem fine but I'm wondering if I can use synthetic oil or if I should stick to dino oil. I'm not very familiar with these engines so I'm not sure having sat if anything may have been made brittle and may be damaged by the additional detergents. Please advice.

When i bought my ranger 3.0,it had 45,000 on it. I only put 5w20,full synthitec oil in it.I now have 93,500 miles.Runs like new.
I also go overboard, with oil changes every 3000 miles.More than needed, but thats just me !
see ya,old retired guy

For some reason these archaic engines are recommended synthetic, and whilst i'm happy to keep that up (i use Penzoil Platinum) i will not run the 5w20 that started getting recommended for the Café standards, so i run 5w30.
