Power steering pump going bad?

New to the forums not new to car trouble though. I have an 03 Ranger XLT that ran very good the day I got it from the dealer about 3 weeks ago. Lately the steering pump makes a loud whining everytime I turn the wheel. There are no fluid leaks or anything. Is this typical of a Ranger wth 100K miles? Before this truck I had a Mercury that did the exact same thing but after a while the pump overheated and melted parts in the engine costing me $700. Can this be prevented?

Here is my Ranger.. http://www.cardomain.com/ride/3045115

Check your fluid. They makes some sweet whining noises when low on fluid. I havn't had any problems with mine in the trucks 82k life. Except the cooling tube that sprung a leak through a pinhole that started. Have you found any leaks??
