Question? need help
If you go by the books they will say it won't fit. It will but you have to pull the upper intake and change the injectors and harness from your old motor. You may also have to swap the cam syncronizer, coil, and other sensors so they fit the older harness. The exhaust manifolds are probably different also. I just put an 01 motor in a 99 and had to change the harness and injectors.
I put a 3.0 from an 03 in my 98. used my ecu, and my old harness. swapped lower intake with fuel rails, intake manifold, and used my 98 headers. used the valve covers from my 98 too :P pm me if you have any more questions.
everything should be the same.. my wiring harness from my 98 3.0 is on my 03 3.0 in my truck right now, and I have one missing plug. didn't get any check engine lights. I used pretty much EVERYTHING from my truck. I didnt use the ecu cos of the pats stuff and all that crap. pretty much use the block, and heads, thats really only thing I used, and everything worked. only thing that changed would be the nice non plastic (idk what its made out of) intake manifold on my 98 compared to the cheap plastic pos on the 03. which I switched the 03 lower intake, to my 98 so I had the nicer one. blah, felt like I just rambled on and didn't get anywhere lol.
I had recently changed a 97 ford ranger 3.0 5 spd engine with a 02 ranger 3.0 and all i had to change over was the intake and throttle body, coil, motor mounts, timing sensor, and water pump i believe thats all. the manifolds were the same and the fuel rail, and i done this all in my car port with my friend in a week but we only had about 2 or 3 hours a day.
