Seeking Guidance on Rebuilding M5OD-R1 Transmission for 2002 Ford Ranger
Hello everyone,
I have a RWD 2002 Ford Ranger XLT with a 3.0L V6 engine and an M5OD-R1 5-speed manual transmission. I've owned this truck for nearly 10 years, and although I've since bought newer, lower-mileage trucks, my Ranger is still around sitting and collecting dust. Now, I want to use it as a tinkering project to learn more about vehicle repairs.
I am mechanically inclined and typically perform all maintenance and light repair work on my vehicles. However, I want to expand my knowledge and skills. This Ranger, with over 300k miles and in rough shape, is the perfect candidate. The transmission needs a rebuild due to grinding bearings and issues shifting into a few gears. I've ordered a rebuild kit with all new bearings, seals, and synchronizers, and I plan to tackle the rebuild at home.
I'm comfortable with the risk of doing this myself as the truck's value is negligible, making it more valuable to me as a learning experience than anything else. However, I would greatly appreciate any guidance, especially if anyone has a video tutorial of rebuilding this specific transmission or a copy of the applicable pages from a service manual that shows the step-by-step process.
I've searched online for service manuals but haven't found any in a decent price range that are guaranteed to include what I need. I'm hoping someone can provide the necessary pages or point me towards an affordable service manual (a digital copy is perfectly fine) that contains the required information.
Thanks in advance for any help!
