how would te 3.0 sound wth a straight pipe? would I lose any power? I know there would be a sound difference but how much of one? I dont want it real loud, but I dont like how quiet the exhaust is now. Any help would be greatly appreciated

I've driven mine without a muffler and its to loud. it doesn't sound good at all, everyone who has done it will tell you that. Get a flowmaster, its loud enough and has a good tone. I just put one on my truck and it sounds great.

I disconnected my muffler to see what it sounded like...It was loud, but makes it sound like you were too cheap to buy a muffler, lol. Get a magnaflow muffler...sounds awesome.

I ran mine without when I tore one off when offroading. It sounded pretty cool I thought. With all the CATS it was loud, but you could certainly use it and boy did it rumble nice in the cab.

It was too loud for me on my daily driver, but if you like loud, I think it's driveable that way.

I removed mine when installing my muffler and it sounded awesome! I never drove around with it off and would never leave it off.

I've tried quite a few setups and straight pipe out the back is AWESOME!! I've had resonated tips, dumped flowmaster 40, custom flowmaster 40, ravin muffler with stock piping, and dumped straight pipe.

When you guys are saying no muffler, did you unbolt the exhaust under the cab. If so, dumped straight pipe sounds a lot different then if you run the pipes out the back of the truck. I have straight pipes that run out the back with 2 foot long 3" diameter tips. I wouldn't change this setup EVER. It's got a low rumble at idle and has a mellow tone under constant throttle. Yes it can get raspy at redline, but I rarely hit redline.

There's a red 04/05 Edge I see driving around my area almost eveyday running straight pipe. That damn thing sounds like crap. Makes me wonder why the guy didn't just buy a Honda and rice that out instead.

ive done both straight and the delta 40, straight loses power and just sounds like yer going faster, and the delta is semi quiet and gave me slight torque change, but sounded perty good.

the regular 40 series is louder..or somthn like that cause Andrew (kanoeking) has a 40 series and his is really loud and my truck is fairly quiet

Uh, of course it will sound like crap just cutting it off. People dont understand when you get a complete system ran out the back with bigger pipes and good size tips, it changes the sound so much. Glasspacks just make it sound like it has a muffler with a bunch of holes in it. I have straight duals after the cat back, and it sounds about like lord of wars, right there is a good example of how better it sounds with a complete system, rather than just cutting it off underneith.

well, I cut the exhaust off right after the cats, was WAYYY to loud, so I put the glasspack on it, and now it sounds like a rice rocket from H-E-L-L!!!! lol So now I am back to square one.....I am saving my money and buying a 40 series flowmaster, and gonna go from there. But money is gonna be tight with gas at $2.75 a gallon!!!! Thanks for all the input guys, I apprecite it, and I am sure my truck thanks you too lol

I bought mine and it came with duals after the cat back, and like mj550, I agree. Mine sounds like Lord of War's from what I can tell. I'm not sure what type of exhaust system it is. I'd like to get some sort of Flowmaster system. Something that gives me more power.

Dude I put a flowmaster 40 on my 3.0 and I got like 200 to the tank, then I put 35's on and a straight pipe, and now I get like 240-250 to the tank.

People who have said they dont like it in most cases have just unbolted/cut the muffler off and then tried it. It sounds WAY different with a complete system and nice big tips. Mine sounds close to this one in the link below. Tail pipes make all the difference in the world, espically with big tips. Anything cut off sounds like crap.

mine didnt sound too bad, i was putting on a dynomax exhaust sys, and wanted to see what it sounded like from the cat. the dynomax sys is good tho, doesnt make it sound like a rice burner, but could be better
