Stupid question -water pump
Stupid question -water pump
Thanks in advance!
My son has a 1992 Ford Ranger V6 3.0.
Long story short - no heat, so we pulled the heater core. It was corroded and blocked so we replaced it. Still no heat. Checked the heater hose from the water pump. Cold, no pressure. Pulled the hose off to check for blockage. Dry with no blockage.
Started the truck with the hose disconnected from the water pump. No coolant coming out of the water pump.
So, the water pump is bad, right?

Just as a heads up
Water flows from the closest hose to the thermostat TO the heater core
Then from the heater core TO the water pump
So nothing should come out of the water pump heater hose connection
Water pump circulates coolant thru the engine TO the thermostat, upper rad hose
when engine warms up then thermostat opens and coolant can flow to radiator
So heater hose OUT to core, will always be near thermostat housing, or on it
There will always be flow thru the heater hoses because thermostat, even when fully open can't handle all the flow the water pump generates
As a second heads up, in a 1992 there is a cable operated Blend Door that covers the heater core in the cab, it diverts air from the fan either thru the core, HOT, or around the core, COLD
It is operated by the TEMP control slider bar in the dash
