So my son bought his first truck. 1999 ford ranger 3.0 v6 4x2 automatic. We knew when we bought it the reverse band was broken. I bought an 01/01 ranger with 3.0 v6 automatic with good trans. I cannot get this transmission to bolt up on the 1999. I know this was a split year and thought this trans would be a good swap. Am I missing something ? Any help getting my son’s truck up and running would be greatly appreciated.

 

What doesn't fit?
Should be a direct fit/ replacement.

Can't get the transmission close enough to bolt up? Then the torque convertor isn't fully seated into the transmission.

 

Thanks for confirming the match. I was doubting myself. I will try again in the morning and make sure torque converter is seated. I have tried about 20 times and end up about 1/4 from the guide pin holes.

 

That tells me the torque convertor isn't fully seated, DO NOT use the bolts to force the transmission to the engine, you WILL break the front pump in the transmission.
