Un-moding the Engine
here we go again
anyway, i took my e fan off last fall and went from 230-250 miles per tank to under 200. needless to say i re-installed it, the reason i took it off was because i had it on the radiator with no shroud. the bottom of the radiator was packing with mud. not good. so when i re-installed it i made some brackets and installed it on my stock shroud. no more mud packing. i have never had any problems with overheating, weather stuck in traffic or towing a 1000 LB trailer up north 200 miles one way in 80+ degree heat with the A/C on this summer.
i think if you have UD pulleys you need the water pump pulley also

Yeah I remember my JM efan would mysteriously fail to turn on at times, and you would hear the lovely bubbling of the coolant reservoir lol it's really all in the controller though and I think there is somebody on here that built a reliable one.
Griggs did. I bought one, but thought about unmodding the truck for some time. Now I figure I might as well get a move on, so aside from the CAI, I'm removing all my engine compartment mods. The interior mods will take FAR longer, but I'll get there eventually.
Well the @)%*#$)*# efan failed me again in traffic and the truck was redlined on engine temp for a minute or so before I was able to get out of bumper-to-bumper and get the engine cooled. This evening I removed the efan and all the wiring and reinstalled my stock fan and shroud. I need to get two bolts to hold the shroud and to change out my front bezel. I carefully cut a second hole to mount a second fog light switch to activate the efan. If anyone wants to swap bezels (as long as you have the foglight hole), I'm game :)
Good choice! I was having same problems...I had the efan and pullies, the efan SUCKED both with and without a shroud...it failed 2 times (just froze up) on me. Couldn't keep the tranmission cool, even with the shroud, and offroading or towing...forget it. Both gauges spiked.
The UPD's i was sad to take off, they wore down and squeaked. I'm back to all stock now...I just have a drop in filter and 40 series flowmaster...and tuner. And to be honest, I think it's the best where it is.
I can't stand the efan...

I hear that! I'm slowly realizing stock engine/trans is better...suspension, aftermarket is WAY better!
Concur. After working on my suspension, I find it to be a FAR better investment.

read this thread, before making the same mistakes!
WIth the number of components with an e-fan setup, they will never be as reliable as the OEM mechanical fan/clutch assembly.
I had the efans, been through 3, depending on your application they maybe good, but the OEM mechanical fan is proven and you know it works. nothing like being stuck waiting for the truck to cool down.
do you regreat selling your stock fanclutch to me a few years back hahaha
who knows. I got it from NicksterSVT, which his truck is a completely different application than most, not sure if it came off his truck or if it was a spare he had?
