Service "advisory" on 3.0L heads
Just got my truck ('05 3.0L Extended cab 2WD) back from the shop. It had been running fine, no problems at all. In fact, I just returned from an 800 mile trip. Monday morning the check engine light came on. I took it to the dealer and they checked it out. The came back and said the two of the exhaust valve seats in the heads were bad, one in each head. They also said there was a service "advisory" on these heads. The truck had just turned over 36K three days ago and figured I was in for a big bill. The service manager called Ford and they ordered new heads, replaced them and gave me a truck to drive until they got it done. They charged me a total of $350. Not bad considering the total bill was over $2K.
They said they had problems with the valve seats on this particular run of heads, and that the new ones are of a different design to help remedy the problem. We'll see.
