Vacuum lines
Vacuum lines
Hello,
I have an 89 ford ranger xlt, 2.9l v6 stock. I have an issue with the vacuum lines (I believe I could be wrong) it seems to me to be that the choke is stuck. A fair amount of gas seems to build up in the intake manifold and leaks out of the connector that connects the brake booster to the engine. I think the vacuum lines control the choke, I would like to know if anyone has like a diagram or a YouTube vid that would help me trace the lines. Also I know it’s running rich cause I can smell the exhaust and the engine runs ruff.
thanks

No, a 1989 2.9l is fuel injected so no mechanical choke plate is possible, the computer controls fuel mix to run Richer when engine is cold
There is a Fuel Pressure Regulator(FPR) on the engine that has the Fuel Return line AND a vacuum hose on it, if the FPR starts to leak fuel can be sucked into the intake manifold via that vacuum hose
Replace FPR if there is gasoline in that vacuum hose
FPR looks like a small "can" and as said has a Fuel line and a vacuum hose connected

Is there any way I can find out where the lines go and what they do? I have a couple vacuum lines that are broken off and or missing completely.
also thank you for answering my question I was bit worried when the exhaust started to smell like I burnt fuel.

As far as vacuum diagrams, no not really any that are easy for most to read and understand
Several seen here: https://www.therangerstation.com/tec...hose-diagrams/
When you vehicle was new there would be one of thee types of diagrams on the Rad support, might still be there
These diagrams show whats hooked up but not where the hoses are or path they take
And some are not even included since its expected most mechanics know what and where they are, like the air pre-heater system
Google: 1989 ford ranger 2.9l vacuum hose diagram
Look at what comes up and matches your setup
