I have a 2003 stick shift. Several times now when I go to start it I have nothing. Dash lights come on and radio. Turn the key back and forth engage the clutch several times and it starts. Does the switch on the clutch go bad?

 

If it's the clutch switch, then yes, it's just an electronic switch, anything can go bad. Have you pulled it or looked at it yet?

 

No I haven’t yet. I’m thinking it’s either that or the aftermarket chip key. I think every time it was with that key not the factory key. It’s weird it’s only 1 in 20 or so starts, you get nothing then after a couple of tries it’s fine like nothing ever happened and turns over and starts up.

 

You'd need to look for the security light behaviour if you think it's the key.

 

Can you tell me what I’d be looking for?

 

Notice what the light does when you're not near it with a key, notice what it does when you get a successful start - i believe a rapid flash when it doesn't detect the transponder.

 

So I’m replacing the switch. Does anyone know how to remove the push rod part from the floor.
