2020 Console shift light

My 2020 Lariat has a ton of options but the shifter on the console does not light to show what gear you are in. I took it to the Dealer and they told me that the shift ID is just painted on? The gear that you select is shown on the instrument cluster but not on the console. Has anyone else seen this problem?

not a problem at all, ford eliminated it from the trucks, just like the F150s. My 2019 is lit but it just lights up, doesn't show the gear selection. the only indication is the dash, 100% normal

It may be normal but in my viewpoint it is stupid! My wife and I have had a number of Explorers and currently have a Mountaineer. They all had lit consoles that showed what gear you selected. Why bother to paint the gear ID when it has no meaning? My old Ranger a 2000 had a gear selector on the column and showed the gear selected on the dash. That makes sense! Painting shift positions makes no sense.
ps; I took it to the Dealer and the Tech was puzzled but said some have lights others do not! I would think that a Lariat should have real indicators!

Thanks for the reply!

the reason why ford took the light out is because it is illuminated on the dash, i will take a picture tonight to show what i mean about the light not showing the gear position on the console. it just is backlit..thats all. no orange indicator

Thanks for the reply. I do not know the build date on my Ranger but I still am not happy with no indicator on the console. Why go to the expense of painting the gear positions on the console if there is no indicator pointing to the letters? My old Ranger a 2000 XLT had the shift on the column and that made sense. My prior 3 Explorers and my current 2010 Mountaineer all had console shifters and console indicators! Oh well at least I know not to pay attention to the console script!

It could be a nuisance, because if you are parked with the wheels turned (on a hill, maybe), the wheel blocks your view of the instrument panel display.

But, I have no idea if the console is lit on my 2019, because I never look there for it.

This is what I mean. Truck was running and as you can see. The console doesn't tell you anything

Yours looks to be lit? Mine are just painted on absolutely useless! Why would they paint the letters on or for that matter why light the selector when there is no indicator? The Dealer told me that some are lighted and some are painted? You would think that the Lariat with a console shifter would be lit and indicate what gear you are in? My Mountaineer does just that!

Mine is lit, but does NOT tell you what gear you are in. That falls solely on the IPC to tell you. See above post with the SSM from ford, ALL rangers no longer have the light, it didn't do anything so they got rid of it. Same with the F150s. So yes all rangers after that build date just have the letters painted on. No backlight

There is no orange filter to indicate gear on the shifter itself, only the IPC gear indicator.

The lariat doesn't add as many features as you think, about 95% of the stuff on the lariat is also on the XLT

Yes, I have the same issue. The Ford dealership service department wanted to keep my truck for 2 days to research. Amazing a 40K dollar truck does not have a working shifter light on the console, why paint it on. As corrupt Joe would say, Come On Man.
