Adding Trailer Brake Controller
Hi all,
I’m going to add a trailer brake controller to my 2019 Ford Ranger XLT. Is there any advantage to using the actual Ford controller (vs. an after-market one)?

There would be some advantage as far as the automatic braking
But no real advantage in normal use
i.e. the auto braking doesn't need your foot on the brake pedal, its "automatic", lol
So the Ford model trailer brake would activate the trailer brake as well as the trucks brakes in that situation
You could still set the drag and trailer brakes would activate when your foot was on the brake pedal with a Ford or 3rd party setup
Ford's setup may also have an added display on the console/dash when in use that the 3rd party wouldn't have

The Ford branded TBC is the same as a REDArc controller, but the Ford TBC comes with an additional module to get the braking signal
from the 3rd brake light, instead of the brake pedal. This preserves trailer braking in case of Auto Emergency Braking and for Adaptive Cruise Control.
Without the module, if AEB or ACC activates the brakes, the truck will brake, but not the trailer.
