1994 ranger engine issues
1994 ranger engine issues
So about 3 weeks ago I bought a 1994 ranger 4.0 with a 5 speed and only 109,000 miles. The guy I bought it from said that he was driving it one day and it just shut off on him and then when he would restart it sometimes it would run like **** and sometimes it would run fine. So the night I bought it and got it home I started it and it ran and idled just fine. The next day I started it and it seemed to be running very rich, there was white smoke coming out of the exhaust and flames coming from the exhaust under the cab. The next day i start it again and it runs like poop again but this time it won't stay idling by itself and when I finally let it die I could not get it to restart... and still haven't been able to. I have replaced the crankshaft position sensor, tps, engine coolant temperature sensor, air charge temp sensor, and maf sensor. After replacing all of those I took the throttle body off to find fuel in the intake manifold and I also saw a streak of fuel running down the engine from a leaky injector. So I replaced all 6 injectors and made sure there were no leaks and IT STILL WON'T RUN it just cranks and cranks. But when I play with the accelerator like pushing it to the floor and letting off it sounds like it wants to start but never does. I have spark at all 6 cylinders and fuel to all 6. I also tried starting on starting fluid and it wouldn't fire.
UPDATE
So the other day i got 6 new plugs and installed them. the truck fired right up but smokes out of the tail pipe still and seems to be running rich still. After letting it idle for a little bit it finally died on its own and did not want to start again. i pulled the codes and got codes 117, 112, 122, 513, 565 and 556. I also checked the voltage of the tps and it read .5v closed but did not go up when i pressed on the throttle. Next i pulled the computer out and found that there were 3 capacitors that were fried so i ordered some new ones and soldered them in. Once i put the computer back in the truck fired right up and after idling for a second went up to 2k rpms and slowly came down to about 800 rpm but it still ran rough and was smoking a bit, while it was running i also unplugged individually the maf, tps iac, and air charge temp sensor and none of those changed the rpms, rough running and did not kill the engine. i shut it off and went to restart it and this time it started for a second then died. i tried starting it several times with the same result. then after a few tries the truck would not start at all. I do not know where to turn from here. could it be a sensor? could the ecm be completely fried? any help is much appreciated. Thanks.

Check Vacuum hose on the Fuel Pressure Regulator(FPR)
If vacuum line has gasoline in it replace it
All 6 injectors get 12volts with key on
In 1994 there are just 2 Ground wires one for 3 injectors and another for the other 3
The computer GROUNDS 3 injectors at the same time to open them
If one of these wires is shorted to ground......................................well flooding and rich running
So key off
Test if an injector wire is a ground, it shouldn't be with computer off, test a couple of injectors
