I drained the radiator in my 2001 Auto trans Ranger and found trans oil in the coolant. Figured I have to replace the radiator. 150,000 miles on the engine.
Im on a budget so I wanted to order one from rock auto or a discount site like that.
Has as anyone ordered one and can recommend? I hear these radiators can be crappy, any of them a good value?
I also read there are radiators you can get that don’t have the transmission fluid go through them. Then you purchase and install a separate part to make up for that. Is this a cheap option? Exactly which radiator and other part Coolant drain bucket with trans oil
would I need to do that?
I think i probs just wanna drop a cheap radiator in it since the transmission is finicky and may crap out soon.
You can check wrecking yards not all vehicles there were in front end collisions, they will know what will fit your vehicle
You need radiator with built in trans cooler, it is also use to keep trans fluid warm in winter, above 150degF, if you live in Denver you need this
Not very common for trans coolers to leak, it happens just not alot based on the number of vehicles that use them, lol.
So discounted brand should be fine
Coolant will also be in trans so you need to drain it as well, that could be why trans is finicky
Coolant can't maintain the pressure that ATF can inside a transmission so will cause slipping and other issues
