4.0 sensor issues....

so yea got some money finally. working for a friend who owns his own plumbing biz.

anuwhoo time to do some engine upkeep. plug wires, TPS sensor, Crank shaft Sensor, (2) O2 sensors. ive been studying the sensors and how to check them etc for a while. but still a novice
sofar i had a code for the TPS and crank sensors.

TPS code went away now yay.
plug wires helped my under load miss.

but i still have a 214 code for my crank shaft sensor malfunction, also i replaced the 2 O2 sensors because one i thought was burt out so might as well do both. what a PITA they are to get un pluged. damn 4.0 is shoe horned in there. anyway im still getting a reading on my code tool saying that bank 1 O2 is not reading any voltage. while bank 2 O2 is reading the usual voltage variation.

i need some help. just those 2 items can cause me to fail smog test. and in republic of mexikali its a pain if things dont pass.

Sounds to me like you just need to replace the crank sensor (very easy to do) and check the connection on your bank 1 02 sensor.

i just replaced the crank sensor, TPS sensor, and both O2 sensors, also a set of plug wires.

i still have a crank sensor code 214 AND bank 1 O2 sensor is not showing a reading to the computer. and yes its plugged in. i had to crawl into the engine bay to get to the damn thing.

ok... a P0214 DTC code is a "Cold Start Injector 2" which makes no sense to me.

And on the 02 sensor. Even though it's a pain.. It's either the connector not making contact, the terminals got bent, or the sensor it'self is bad.

214 is a cam sensor code, not a crank sensor code.

Continuous Memory DTC 214 indicates an error has been detected in the Cylinder Identification (CID) input signal. The error could be due to a hard fault or an intermittent condition.

Possible causes:

-- Open or shorted harness.

-- Damaged Camshaft Position (CMP)/Crankshaft Position (CKP) sensor.

-- Damaged Ignition Control Module (ICM) (if equipped).

-- Damaged Powertrain Control Module (PCM).
Your '94 CA 4.0L must have SEFI.

its not a P code this is OBD1 its just 214, i did some research last night and looked through a wiring diagram and what do ya know. the CAM position sensor and the O2 sensors share a ground, its possible that that splice is loose. of corse this is just a guess lookin at the wiring diagram, the strange part if it is the ground is that the other o2 iss also on the same ground, but it could be getting just enough to work. and the 214 code is not crank sensor its a code for CID cylinder identification meaning crank OR cam sensors could be faulty or have a fault. OR i would assume the code would set if say your timing chain jumped a tooth.

but either way this is going to take diagnosing not just throwin parts at it.. we call it "shotgunning" parts.. hmmmm wonder if its an ECM.. chick chick BOOOM..

ahahahahahahhaha

dont worry justin we will get it figured out this weeknd..

Yes I also post over at FTE.

You're right about the seperate wiring diagrams. '94 4.0L CA Rangers are equipped with sequential fuel injection (as opposed to the 'batch fired" systems in the 49-state version).

In '95+ all 4.0L Rangers got SEFI and hence they all have a cam sensor.
