4.0l DOHC??

Why dont rangers have these motors in them? I heard they better gas mileage and have more power then the sohc? Just curious why ford never put one in the ranger.

i dont know why they didnt but it might be because it needs a bigger block to fit the four cams

Most new motors have gone into cars with fwd which is a different tranny mounting configuration. They have also been to small for our application (which has to work in heavier Sport Tracs and Explorers). Until this year a 3.0 was the biggest they had. They just introduced the 3.5 this year.

I expect the 3.5 DOHC soon with 265 HP vs 205 for the 4.0 SOHC we have now. Soon is 2-3 years in auto lingo. if it's not on the Ranger, it will be in the Rangers replacement. Kind of like the s-10/Colorado.

the 3.5 sucks.. dad has been testing it for a while. the water bump is in the crank case and guess what its PLASTIC, the motor isn't reliable he still is shaking his head at how much the techs hate this motor. and yes the 4.0L SOHC is going AWAY completely and the 3.5L is taking its place and the 3.0L is also getting dropped its expected that it will just be the 3.5L and 4cyl in the ranger. and like hell i would own one with that motor. also with the new ford edge to replace this water pump that WILL blow up just like the lovely contour motor that was plastic around 65k-70k you have to basically pull the whole motor to replace it.. another one of Fords most WONDERFUL idea's no wonder there going in the ****ter...

I think 3.8 was the biggest in the taurus and i don't think it was a DOHC. 3.0 was the biggest v6 dohc until this year. I specified V6 cause i have a 4.6 DOHC in my garage.

Zach,

if we want DOHC technology for added rpms, hp, mileage, and torque it comes with a price. I had the front engine cover off my truck last weekend and figured with 80,000 miles on it I would swap timing chains (since I had it off). Those days are gone. it used to be a timing cover and you used to be able to access it from there. Now you have to pull the engine out to do it.

it's the sacrifice we make for technology. How many carb guys poo pooed the whole EFI thing 30 years ago? a bunch! some still do. Looks like the new battle is gonna be pushrod engines vs dohcs. i've seen and felt the DOHC advantage. I want it.

the Ford edge will set you back in the seat a little. Sub 16 seconds in a 4000 pound boat with a 3.5 motor? I'll take two.

lol. It's a definate. I understand your concerns. You have insite we guys don't have. This vehicle has been a long wait for me. Supposed to hit dealers in November, which turned into December, which turned to after Christmas.

God willing, I am gonna get a Lincoln MKX towards the end of the year. My only hold back is waiting to see the 2008 specs. they don't have a blue one currently.

Because Ford is not investing more $$'s into the platform until it does a completely new redesign from ground up, that will probably not be called a Ranger. Until then it's bandaids- new tail lights, fender flares, grills, etc.

LMAO

Yeah the taurus never had a 4.0L; it was the ever so lovely 3.8L OHV V6 ..

So if the 3.5L has a "plastic" waterpump, as did the 2.5L in the contour.. then the 3.0L DOHC has it as well, right (being in the same family)? Why am I not hearing of problems with it?
