94 4.0 Questions

hello im new to this forum, i just bought a 94 4x4 ranger with 31'tires on stock rims and a 6" or so lift. ive been reading all of these posts and searching but i havent found anything that im experiencing.. i dont know if its just me, but the truck seems to not as much power in 4th and 5th (od) gears.. this is my work truck so i have all my tools which probably weigh a little over 500 pounds, i also have a steel bed rack on it, but it seems as if the truck cant climb up hills on the freeway (about 6% slopes) my other truck is a 08 silverado and i know the power isnt nearly as close but i just would of thought the 4.0 would perform better.. or am i just expecting too much from the motor?....i also get around 15mpg... ive done some regular maintainance but should there be anything else i should check? sorry so long thanks in advance

I've got a '96 with a 4.0L and I get 22 mpg. Your truck has a lot of low end torque, I know I have to floor it when I go up relatively steep hills if I want to maintain my speed.

Also, go introduce yourself!

as mentioned above the older 4.0's have more low end torque, and the newer 4.0 has more high end torque, and 15mpg kinda on the low side but not really, ranger's are normally around 16mpg to maybe 23mpg
