after riding in my truck, my buddy wants to swap in a 4.0

right now he has a 98 ranger, 5spd with the 3.0. that thing is GUTLESS. the stick makes it a bit better, but its still ridiculous.

he wants to swap in a 4.0. how hard is it??

ive done motor swaps before, but all i did was swap in a built version of my stock motor in my grand prix. everything was the same.

what all would he need for the 4.0?

and how hard will it be?

Which 4.0 are you talking about? You have a SOHC 4.0. That engine wasn't offered until 01 in Rangers. The 4.0 OHV was offered though. It'd be a pretty much direct swap. The SOHC version on the other hand would probably require some custom wiring and other things.

id say its a direct swap. it should just bolt right in. the only problem is getting it working properly....wiring would be the hardest part. getting the bastard to run! lol. believe a new trans would be needed as well.
