I am curious about this as well. I think I definitely need one, though. I am adding Hellas to a truck that already has a 1500W sound system in it. I'm wondering what brand to get, since I have never bought anything but OE alternators before.

If your looking for an aftermarket alternator with more amperage, check out 3G. They are made by motorcraft and come in higher outputs from 130 up to 200 amps. I have a 200 amp alternator in my truck by them that I really like. I added it when I put a stereo system and electric fan in my truck. Works great, just required some wiring and I used an overdrive pulley on mine to provide enough amperage at idle for my electric fan.
