Ok, I was at a show and was checking out the fords. I saw the explorer and was looking at the engine. It had the SOHC, but had an awesome looking intake. I was wondering if I could use the intake manifold off of an explorer on my ranger or are there differences that I don't know about?

Those have been like that for a while. It's just a longer runner.

Aren't longer runners better for low-end TQ? Seems like I remember hearing the VQ engine team at Nissan saying something about that.

If that were the case, I'd say it would be a good offroad mod. Chances are though, you'd need a new intake tube and such.

I know Mr. Muffakka (Lowered Black Reg. Cab. XLT with Edge clip) had an Explorer 4.0 in his....

They are better for low end torque. That manifold looks very similar to the one on the 5.0L engine. I don't know why they have two different manifolds for ranger vs. exploder. Could be a packaging thing since the ranger has a lot less room under the hood.

I finally got around to asking them. 200 bux for a new manifold and also I found out that mathmatically it should fit under the hood. Will have to get one from the junkyard to put on the project engine!

i've asked this before but came up with no good info but my idea is the exploder is heavier and needs more low end? and has different gears? i dunno but let us know how it works!

The exploder is heavier but the ranger intake has more than enough low end grunt to move it around. But the newer intakes have longer runners which allow the incoming air charge to gain more velocity and produce more low end. In effect it works like a tunnel ram.

But I want it just to be different lol. I am going to be trying to dig one up in a local junkyard where I have some connections and putting it on and seeing what I can pick up lol
