backfiring

Hello,

I hope anyone can help me to figure this one out ... why its my engine backfiring in sequence? it makes a pop noise 3 times then it pauses like 5 seconds then it pop noise 3 times.

I see the CEL is on my instrument panel ... I haven't yet pull the codes for it. I can do that tomorrow then I will update this post

Recently i had the lower intake manifold gasket for lower and upper, intake manifold assembly NOS replaced along with new fuel injectors installed ...

I noticed there's an number 4 injector leaks fuel ... does it has something to do with that also causing backfiring?

I have 1995 Ford Ranger XLT 4.0L V-6, manual 5OD transmission

Thank you for your input! Go

Recheck the firing order on the coil pack AND that each spark plug wire goes to correct cylinder.
Coil pack

3 4
2 6
1 5
Front

Notice the oddball 5, 6, 4 on the drivers side of coil pack, I reverse those all the time.

And yes leaking injector means lower fuel pressure at that cylinder which means lean air/fuel mix which can pre-ignite when intake valve opens

sup with reversing the plugs? I'm confused here ... i followed the Haynes repair book so the wires are hooked up right with coil pack. I can double check tomorrow after work if your method works then why is it listed wrong in the repair book? smh

now I have this code:

according to google ... it labels it as DPFE crap ... which it doesn't match up in this picture above. I'm lost here ... any explanation?

P1401 is a common code for Fords
DPFE sensors are good for about 80,000 miles, don't replace with Ford part, use after market, they tend to last longer.
But always check the DPFE hose first and the connectors, hoses tend to get moisture inside.

Ford Vulcan 3.0l and Ford 4.0l OHV and 4.0l SOHC all use the same coil pack firing order.
3 4
2 6
1 5
Front

Cylinder numbers are
3 6
2 5
1 4
Front

So cylinder 4 spark plug wire goes to rear post drivers side of coil pack
Cylinder 5 spark plug wire goes to front post drivers side of coil pack
