so i have a 3.0 4x4 five speed ranger that isnt cutting it anymore...

i know i need gears...im sitting on bfg 31 mud terrains...

but my engine is knocking and i think its a piston bearing...

i want to swap a 4.0 in and do the gears....maybe even rebuilding my 3.0 but the catch is im on a budget of $4000

anyone have any good sites for engines and other parts.....and help me with some ideas please!

 

junkyard the 4.0 and rebuild it with a sc?

 

I'm not trying to be mean, but for 4k, you can get a decent ranger with a 4.0 and 4x4. I would look into buying a different one honestly.

If you budget for 4, expect to spend 8...thats coming from experience. You never make your budget when workign on a vehicle.

 

You should be able to find a 4.0 at a junkyard along with a new rear end with different gears for well under 4k, if go over 4k on gears and an engine, you weren't trying very hard to stay under your budget, or if you want to stay with the truck you have, buy a whole other truck and part it out

 

Naw.. I'm pretty sure it's the muffler bearing.

IMO I'd take the 4k and get a different truck. Otherwise you'll never get the money back out of it.
