Engine Startup Problem

Tried to start my truck up this A.M. in Jax, FL

I tried for half an hour, tried jumping it, pressing the gas pedal, (You know we all do it even though it won't work.). To no avail.

It just wouldn't turn over, it shaked and rattled but wouldn't start.

I went back 20mins after letting it sit, and tried it again; cranked it, stopped and quickly went to start it again, and it started up, possibly a little rough.

Any clues on the problem?

It's got fresh Oil in it, and I've gotta get the fuel filter changed out, will be changing out the serpentine too.

You didn't say how it's running now. Is it running fine? If it's running like crap it could have jumped timing if it's bucking and all. From what it sounds like it was turning over but wouldn't start or else you wouldn't have had any bucking or anything. But maybe you had a fuel pickup problem or a vapor lock condition but you gotta say how it's running now.

Oops..

Sorry, It's running smooth now..

I typed and re-typed the first post, so things got left out, that I originally said.

It's running smooth now, went to try and replace the fuel filter but couldn't get the line going to the fuel tank to come off, any tips?! They want $68.00 to put it on at a shop.

I don't know about a 1998 but aren't all 3 lines squeeze clips? If not you might need a fuel line removal tool which you can get in plastic at a parts store for like ten bucks. They are easy to change, I just don't remember what the connectors are.
