Icon5 Exhaust systems that work with the 4.0

Hello! This is my first post on Ranger Forums, so I apologize ahead of time if I did something wrong. Last October I purchased my first ranger (my family's third) and I have been searching for exhaust systems to make it have a deeper tone, but not cab rattling. I have been researching different systems and watching countless youtube videos to try to get the right sound. I really like the deep rumble, not something that sounds like a continuous fart going down the highway. My friend put an exhaust on his s10 that sounded like that.

The ones I have researched are
- Flowmaster American Thunder
-Summit Deep Tone
- MagnaFlow 15773 (very expensive)

I was just wondering if anyone else had outfitted their Ranger 4.0 with these models and were satisfied with the results.

Flowmaster has been the tried and true muffler of choice. Now they usually use the 40s series muffler though. Just remember which ever system you choose its not going to sound like a V8.

I have a Magnaflow and very happy with it, cant go wrong with Magnaflow or Flowmaster, but like Vista 4.0 said, most go with 40 series. Another note:
don't waste your money on that whole catback system from Magnaflow, just buy a muffler and have a shop weld it up with 2.5" pipe from the cat back, you will save a lot of money, shop prices seem to vary from region to region, but your total cost should be around $200 to $300 Total. I bought the Magnaflow #12226 for around $75 at Summitt Racing and a shop charged me $210 to weld it up with 2.5" piping.

+1 on Flowmaster 40. However it severely decreases your MPG. Well it does if you always drive it at the RPM level that makes the exhaust sound the best

thank you for the advice, I actually work for a Ford dealer and I can order the parts through the shop and probably have one of the service guys weld the parts

I have been using a Gibson exhaust for 12 years and am still happy with it. Not loud but you can still hear the exhaust note.

What are your thoughts on JBA exhaust systems? Headers, or any other exhaust systems they make for the ranger?

No muffler does sound best. But if you need a muffler MBRP is by far the best choice. Ignore anyone that says otherwise.

Yep MBRP is where I would go if for some reason a muffler is necessary to you. I would stay away from big brands like Flomaster and Magna Flow

I took mine in today and had them take the exhaust from the cat back off and installed a y pipe and two new tail pipes coming out on both sides of my receiver hitch. Defiantly has a different sound to it. Now I will see if it helps with mileage getting rid of the excess back pressure. The one thing I am going to do is put resonator exhaust tips on it or large diameter tips to deepen the sound.
