Exhaust and Warranty

I am wanting to put an exhaust on my truck, but seeing as how its still under warranty my dad thinks that if anything goes wrong with my engine the warranty is void because of the after market exhaust. Anyone with experience on this subject?

They will find any excuse to void the warranty.... they told me if I lifted it it would void my powertrain

well thats not true at all. you definately CAN change your own oil. Save your receipts, keep a record and youre good to go.

As for the exhaust, its questionable. If you just do a cat back, they would have to prove that the exhaust caused the problem that you are trying to get fixed under warranty. Lifting it does void certain aspects of the powertrain warranty, so does running larger tires (larger tires = more stress on certain components). Again, whatever you try and get covered under warranty WILL be covered unless the aftermarket part is the cause of the problem.

Basically, i just said screw the warranty on my truck. i would rather have my truck set up the way I want it than worry about something that "may" break. i figured that Ford has the ranger pretty well figured out since nothing much has changed mechanically on the truck for nearly 10 years. ya know.. they have most of the kinks worked out on their end.

I talked to the dealership and they said adding an exhaust system would not void my warranty as long as it was a cat-back exhaust

As long as it's a cat-back, it WILL NOT void any warranty except the warranty of the original cat back system, as it will no longer be there. Same with an intake, though if oil gets on the MAF, they probably won't cover it.

A fellow member put 32's on his 07. only 1" taller than stock. His transfer case started making odd/strange noises a few months later. Took it in, had it checked out, his case was toast somehow. don't know what went wrong, but the dealer wouldn't change it because those 1" taller tires grinaded the case. lol. Yea....umm.....so he borrowed some 31's from me and had it fixed under warranty. shiny new case.

Wanna know what I say? Screw the warranty.

I'm about ready... I've actually had quite a few things fixed on my truck under warranty. Some of them are things you guys probably wouldn't (I had them put in a new carpet) but I want the thing FLAWLESS.... it's actually in right now getting a new passenger seat. I figure after having it a year I've more than likely done everything I'll need to under the warranty but for my nit-picky stuff it's come out handy...

I'm middle aged and have owned about 26-27 cars in my life.

Oh how I've wasted so much time not changing cars to how I want them.

On my 06 FX4.. once it had about 2000 miles on it.. I just act as if it's not got a warrenty. Wish I had done the same years ago on other cars.

btw, there is nothing in a cat back that will effect a/f ratios or longevity of the power train. Honestly.. don't sweat it for just a cat back.

Before I got my exhaust pu on I asked the dealer and they said it will void the warrenty only if the problem is a result of the exhaust and work. I got the exhaust.

Old thread, but I wanted to say that at the Ford dealership i got my 04 FX4 at, told me that if anything happened for some odd reason to the motor, and i had an aftermarket muffler, they may or may not cover it. So ive been on the fence on getting a new exhaust. But its funny like some of the new fullsizes out there come with a flowmaster muffler right from the factory, if im not mistaken..

The only way they will not cover it is if the problem is a result of the aftermarket parts.
