fast idle

fast idle

Ive been noticing that when its cold that my truck has a hard time gettin to the higher revs... when it starts, its revvin about 500 rpm's and its really ruff... but if i rev it to 1500 or w/e the fast idle is, it will hold it there for like 10 or 15 seconds... What can be done to fix this??


BTW... i got my exaust and intake last summer... im assuming its a computer issue

The curb idle and the fast idle are controlled by the Idle Air Controller which is a bypass valve around the throttle plate. These stick sometimes and cause high or low idle problems. I don't know if the valve can be successfully cleaned. The dealer fix is to replace the part.

Yours definitely has a problem. Fords will start unassisted and run well down to about -30F.

to tell you the truth, i cleaned out my IAC Valve with a Q-Tip and some wd-40..im not sure if its bad or not. but I havent had any problems with it for about a year now after that i took off my throttle body and cleaned it with carb cleaner..lol that stuff eats through anything. but yeh, i did notice that the valve was a lil dirty after cleaning it. but now alll clean :)
