You have a 2001 4.0l Ranger

From 1998 to 2011 Ranger's have the Fuel Pressure Regulator(FPR) in the gas tank on the fuel pump assembly, not on the engine end of the fuel system

What you might be referring to on the engine end is the Pulse Damper, at the end of a fuel rail and has a Vacuum hose attached
If there was gasoline in the vacuum hose then Pulse Damper is bad, and this would also allow fuel to be sucked into the engine via that vacuum hose, making some cylinders wet with fuel

Fuel injectors all get 12volts with Key On(red wire at each injector)
The computer has one wire for each injector, so 6 wires
Computer GROUNDS each injector to open it

If one of these 6 ground wires was shorted to ground/metal/another wire then that injector would OPEN with key on
An injector can also fail and leak fuel into the engine

You can get/rent a NOID Light, this connects between injector and its 2 wire connector
Key on should NOT have a light, cranking engine over should have a Flashing light as computer Grounds and unGrounds injector to open it and close it
