Fuel tank?

I've had a mechanic tell me that the reason I've put three fuel pumps in in the last year is because the tank may be corroding and causing small particles to make it gum up and lose pressure. He's the one who replaced all three. I'm just a little confused that there is no links to this on the web or talk in these forums.
Any help would be appreciated before I spend another 2 days without my truck for work and who knows how much$$. Truck is an Edge 2001, 187,000 miles. It runs great for a month or two after every fuel pump is put in, then it starts hard, engine check light comes on and the P0171-P0174 codes come up, and it's a little sluggish at the lights (low pressure?).
Thanks for any help

Found some info.

So by looking at the past threads, the 2001s have plastic tanks, how does that corrode? Also my truck has a 4.0 L engine if that wasn't understood.
Thanks

Where you getting these pumps from? Yes, you have a plastic tank, so there should not be any tank corrosion.

Wouldn't be tank corroding inside.

Pump has a "sock" on it to prevent what your mechanic describes in any case
"Sock" is a bag like filter/screen so fuel pump can't pull in anything that may be in the tank, from pumping in gas or dropping something in the tank.
So nothing in the tank can get to pump to "gum it up"

Motorcraft pumps are really the only ones that will last.
3rd party are hit and miss.

Now 3 pumps would be a symptom of something else assuming they were different non-motorcraft brands.
If they were all the same brand then switch brands :)

Check voltage to fuel pump with engine running, needs to be above 13.5volts but below 15volts

Thanks guys,
I do wonder what brand he's been putting in there. I'll call him in the morning and drill him about that. He said he checked for vacuum leaks and I've paid for a new filter each of the times it's been replaced. I didn't know about the "Sock"filter, but it only makes sense.
He said something about the plastic leeching some chemical into the pump. I always wonder why people can't just admit they don't know what it could be and move on from there. It never helped to keep making up an answer just to keep someone content until the next failure, just gets me all the more irritable once the failure happens.
Tally ho!

Plus you should be getting free replacements under warranty. Any parts store I've worked at had a labor warranty process for commercial customers.

And if the mechanic brings up Ethanol and plastic gas tanks, put your hand on your wallet and back away slowly then RUN to the Truck and drive away FAST.
Look for a new mechanic.

Years ago some gas tanks had or were fiberglass, it gets eaten away by ethanol, we are talking 40 plus years ago
