I get about 250 a tank, use to get 200 before my programmer. I also have my rear tires at 20 PSI or they break loose when I go WOT from a dead stop damn cheapo Mastercraft 275/60/15s!!!...

Anyway, thats if i keep my foot out of it and let it the truck shift at 2grand or so (auto)... Other wise if I go wide open I can watch my gauge drop if I do it repeatedly.

 

Well, I think it is the summer gas along with warmer temps. It's been getting into the 70s here finally. My last two tanks have been 20-21mpg and this one is looking to be the same. I even went 401.2 miles on the last tank! I also put 19.3 gallons in it too... that was pushing it pretty close. (87 octane)

btw: I had my tires at 35psi. I rotated them sat and put the fronts up to 40 and the rears at 38 just to see if that would help.

I've noticed a spike in mileage lately too. (Not in my truck, but in my Miata, who sees all my commuter action these days.) Suddenly I have gone from 2-days between fillups to probably easily being able to go 3. A day = 110 miles for me.

I just bought a ScanGauge and have it in the Miata all the time now. Previously I had calculated my mileage at about 28 MPG according to my log-book. The scangauge is up over 30 MPG now. I haven't confirmed this from my log-book yet, but it seems believable based on the fuel gauge movement.

So yeah, here's to summer temps and summer fuel.. and the better MPGs that come w/ it.

 

i usually run the cheapest 87 i can find. and then i decided to see if 93(shell) boosted gas mileage any... no such luck.. i may have been going a lil faster than normal, but it was all highway(no a/c, and windows up) and i prob got about 22mpg. oppsed to 24-25

 

Our trucks are intended to run on low octane (85/87) unleaded. There is no advantage to running 'premium' fuel at all.. Unless you have some sort of aftermarket engine management computer or program.

 

ive gotten 17 mpg twice in the last couple of months its either 15 or 17 (i put my tonneu cover on but i really dont like em)

 

once i went 334 miles on a tank 16 gal and got 30.61 mpg..

i average 16mpg city not babying it, and 26.79 on the highway.

anyone use the gas mileage tracker by duck software? its free.

 

I'm now getting over 300 miles on a tank when the light comes every time. Most(75%) is highway miles though.

i have also noticed the gas lasting longer but i keep all my crising to 1500rpm's and it seems a lot easier to get it to cruse there. off the line it still goes up to 2500rmp but i bring it right down again. its hard for an auto.

i also have ot check my tires now lol i want better mpg i'm useto 9mpg in the winter and this feels good.

 

That's not true. The premium fuels have cleaners in them with clean and prevent carbon build up. Now that's not to say you gott run it every time. But IMO every 4th or 5th tank it's not a bad way to have a steady diet of fuel that will help to keep things clean.

I have a soft tonneau cover on the bed of my truck as well. I had one on my old Ranger ('99 XL Sport 4x2) as well. W/ both the old and the new truck I've never been able to see any impact on my mileage by running w/ the cover on or not.

If the cover isn't serving some other purpose for you (read: keeping your load dry ... meh, I said 'load'!) then I wouldn't bother using it.

Mine does a fantastic job of keeping my groceries dry. Really, that's what I bought it for! ... And truthfully that is all I can really recommend it for. Unless you like the look.
I do not agree. I believe that all good quality (read: not the sketchy, no-name station) unleaded has all the additives my truck needs. I think you've bought into the 'premium' marketing paraphernalia.

I've never run premium fuel in any of my vehicles.. and never had a problem because of it.

 

200-230 is my avg. in the city

and bout 240-260 highway

 

I think what y'all are disagreeing about is the brand of gas, not octane. AFAIK, 87, 89, 91, 93, etc...dont run any more or less additives in the same brand. all that is, is the resistatance to detonation.

anywho, i dont know the miles per tank mainly because that doesnt mean ****. u can go an extra 20 miles or more on what is just in the filler neck. Sarahs ranger is getting mid 17s with the A/C on about 60% of the time with a 50/50 mix of driving.

And.. I rebuild my own engines. I have first hand experience at carbon buildup using different fuel for great lengths of time.

And also, I'm not your typical internet car forum armchair engineer either. I'm actually a OEM automotive engineer w/over 14 years of experience. 1/2 of which has been powertrain (engine) related.

Well I went on a 280 mile road trip.
Temps were about mid 70s, had the cruise on 70mph for 90% of the trip, two souls on board, 93 shell, and the ac / e-fan kicking the whole way.

I was disappointed to get only 22.2mpg. I really was thinking it would have been higher. I think maybe adding an incab e-fan off switch may help a little?

All in all I suppose its not to bad for a 4x4 w/4.10 gears and a stock tune.

btw, I have a bamachips x-cal 2 on order which hopefully will help.

Yep, I got it on thursday evening and drove up Sat. I did fill up when I left town and re-filled at the same station when I got back just to see what the milage was.

Hopefully I'll get the programmer soon and get that kind of milage all the time.

Holy $#!t. I am lucky to see 220 miles a tank and would never dream of seeing 300 miles. I average 12 miles a gal. I was over whelmed with joy when I get 13.891 mpgs my last tank!

 

Yeah well.. I'm an engineer and **** about efficieny. I know good and well this thing could get mid 20s daily driving. And IMO there is no reason I can't get high 20s on a trip like that.

Power, air resistance, and milage can all live in harmony if proper attention is given to the proper areas.

I don't think 30 is possilbe. But 27-28 is with the a/f leaned out, full synthetics, & tire pressure.

A 30+ could be possible with ceramic coated combustion chamber surfaces, ultra lean burns, the proper fuel, and possibly dropping cylinders when not needed. Lower gear would help as well.

This is one reason I love our eldorado. I can run high 13s in the 1/4 and **average** 27mpg doing family duties. Shoot on trips like that I get 29-31mpg. (car weighs 4200lbs too)

I was just messing with you, if I could get 27 that would be great. As it is right now towing my row boat up north with the dog the girlfriend and all our crap for a week at the cottage I get 24-25. City I sit right at 21...

 

Since I bought my truck in Sept of last year, I've been avg 221 miles per tank, but that is both highway and city put together, I have made myself an excel sheet to see what I have done miles wise.

Best Tank To Date: 290.3 Miles, 16.22322 Miles Per Gallon and This is without my K&N Aircharger, both city and highway, mostly city though

Worst Tank to Date: 141.3 miles, 9.630 Miles Per Gallon(ALL CITY) and again without my K&N Aircharger and in the winter

With 1st tank on K&N Aircharger: 271.7, 16.09406 Miles Per Gallon (ALL CITY)

I only do mostly City since my work is 8 mins away from my house..

And only have 7,000 miles on the truck in 8 months now...Don't do much driving as you can see!

 

Your mileage is so bad because you live so close. Especially in the winter, the truck is going to run rich in open loop until it warms up so you are pretty much always running it in open loop (running rich). If you lived 30 minutes from work, I bet your mileage would be better, even tho that doesn't sound right...lol.
