well ive been thinking about getting a new Louder exhaust, not really nice sounding just loud! soo ive been thinking about gettin rid of my 2.5" piping with a flowmaster 40 series muffer, and upgrading to either a 3" pipe with a single glass pack and then a turn down, or even dual 2.5" pipe and dual glass packs exiting out the back, or wont those be as loud as my exhaust

i run hollowed cats soo along with my exhaust my truck is fairly loud, i just want it louder

If you want louder, flowmaster makes a single chanmber "race muffler" which would be noticeably louder than the 40 series. And then you could put a turn down where the muffler exits and "dump" the exhaust. Which would be alot louder than running the fumes through a set of tailpipes.

 

do you want a ricey sound or a more rumble of the 40s series is the question. If you had a big v8 then id go for pacs

 

try a super 40, i wouldnt get glasspacks..

No a SUPER 40 SERIES. It has a louder and deeper tone to it.

 

glass pack will sound so bad youll want to kill yourself for putting it on your v6....we got some on my dads 5.0 capri and it sounds aight but its a v8....

 

well tonite my buddy installed a glass pack on his bronco 2 with the stock tail pipe, and it sounds fairly good, kinda loud, not as loud as my truck though, but he only has a 2.9

 

those sound really nice and deep... my neighbor has one on their jeep and it sounds awesome

 

A glass pack is a small pipe filled with shavings of steel wool, etc.

A flowmaster 1-Chamber is not filled with anything. It has a few baffles that deflect the sound to muffle it.

Look on Ebay for the Single Chamber flowmaster muffler......Should be cheaper. It should sound a better than the glasspack, and about the same in decibals.


I understand that, but he was asking for LOUD. I doubt a change in 40 series is going to make much of a noticable change in "loudness". Im sure it will a little, but ya no, he wants LOUD....lol..

Yeah actually it does, heard it myself and the difference is quite noticable. Anyways that 10 series 'race' muffler isnt easy to find and is abit more expensive because of it being a 'race' muffler- also "Note: These mufflers provide minimal sound reduction and are intended primarly for situations where a muffler rule is in effect with no specific decibel requirements.", and the fact that it will sound like crap on a V6, they sound fine on a V8 though. Just stick to the proven 40 series if you want the true flowmaster sound

 

Glasspacks are filled with fiberglass matting..hence the name...glasspack. magnaflow and i think dynomax superflow are filled with the steel wool style matting.

IMO, flows sound like **** on anything with less than 400ci and with less than 8 cylinders its to ricey. neighbor up my apartment had a flow 40 on his 00 expoder and it sounded bad. another kid had one on an 03 FX4 and it sounded even worse. loud, but ricey and buzzy.

why not remove the muffler and run a piece of pipe in its place? oh and i wouldnt go with a 3" pipe, far to lrage for these motors.

I may have a 3.0 but i have a single chamber muffler and it sound's great.
And the super 40 is quieter then the regular 40 but the super is deeper.

yeh i guess to each his own, before my SI/DO 40 series I had a SI/SO 40 series and it had more of a mellow note to it up in the higher RPMs, my SI/DO gets kinda buzzy up there in the very high RPMs sometimes. I think that on a small OHV V6 the race muffler wont sound as good as a SOHC or DOHC which has a better sound to it up in the RPMs usually, the 3.0L has decent sound to it but it's attainable by bringing out the deepness, not the harsh loundess to it though, IMHO. I do like that idle sound though, reminds me of my 40 si/do, but what does it sound like at higher RPMs?

 

that is what i did the other night, i just cut the muffler out with a die grinder and threw in a 2" pipe in it's place. i don't know if the pipe it stock or not but it was 2" from the cat back. it's not annoying in the cab or anything like that, and it sounds good echoing off cars when you pass them lol. i have a hard time spending money to make it louder when i can do it for free and make it even louder.

 

Un-bolt the exhaust pipe from your last cat. I did that last night, and I could swear it'll make you deaf at about 2000-2500 RPM, even inside the cab with the windows closed. It's really loud but doesn't sound like a flowmaster or anything. and the plus side, if you don't like it, just bolt up your exhaust pipe again before ripping it out completely, it's only 2 bolts. I've also heard of guys taking the catalytic converters out of their truck, puttin a cherrybomb glasspack in place of them, and dumping a tip right off of the glasspack. I'm sure that would make it alot louder.

 

I run a glass pack made by thrush(dynomax) $25 on my 3.0 and it sounds freakin sweet, not ricer-ish deep boaty kinda sound...pretty much sounds like no muffler but a lil less loud, just enough so the resonence in the cab doesnt numb ur brain.....tho most people who get in my truck still think it does lol....i passed inspection in NJ of all places after talkin to the supervizer at the station that is.....

 

Honestly, I heard a dude's 3.0 with a 30" glasspack today (3" from the cats back), and it sounded pretty good. Not ricey at all. He pretty much convinced me to go glasspack by the end of the summer.

 

they only problem with glass packs is they burnout, then you pretty much have a stright pipe... so if your going to go that route you might as well save you the time and money and straight pipe it now... if not you cant go wronge with the flowmaster... i LOVE mine... i think its all in the tip on how it sounds... for the right price ill sell you my cat back... i wana get a single inlet dual outlet flowmaster for duals

 

I have a 24" flowtech red hot glasspack on my 2002 ranger with the 4.0L SOHC. It sounds pretty good. Instead of fiberglass packing it has a ceramic fiber packing that resist blowout, and temps up to 1500 degrees. I like the sound of glasspacks. I also like the straight through design for maxium exhaust flow. Flowmaster mufflers sound cool, but they don't "flow" the best. The baffles in the muffler really kill it's CFM rating.
