It means theres a transmission problem. You should take it into a shop if it comes back, its not a code that you can pull at autozone or something.

Check the Performance Transmission thread.... I had the same issue come up and it showed a slippage between 2-3 gear and then a incorrect gear ratio. Basically it got stuck in btween 2 and 3 and rev'd higher and wouldn't shift until i let off the throttle.

All it means is that the transmission threw a trouble code. It could be anything. You need to have the code read before anyone can give you a diagnosis. Auto Zone and Advance read codes for free.

That code isn't like a normal engine code, Auto Zone told me they can't read it.

Yeah I would take it in, warranty will cover it. I would have done it before you put bigger tires on though.

If under warranty take it in to a tranny shop and have them read the code and then google the web. specifically try explorer-forums.com they have alot of good transmission information. Then learn what you can and take it back to ford telling them it is probably your valve body and gasket.... that way they can look right into that... but since its under warranty from ford have them do there work on it...

I am getting a reworked valve body from NicksterSVT....

The Stage 3 kit that I sell used to go for 650 plus a 300 refundable core, but due to the increase in prices of parts, my cost on parts is more than what I used to sell the kits for.

The Stage 3 Kit includes:

A completely rebuilt valve body, seperater plate, and gaskets(to ford's specs) with all new solenoids(shift and epc) that gets worked to your specifications(how you want it to shift).

Upgraded intermediate servo, servo cover, servo spring, and o-ring seal.

Band adjusting nuts.

Transmission pan gasket and filter.

Transmission fluid additive.

Full step-by-step instructions with torque specs.

Did they actually try? When my Explorer had a blinking OD light I used a regular code reader to get the code from the diagnostic port under the hood. It was OBD 1 though.

This sucks, Im looking at an 05 Fx4 auto, but if the auto transmissions are junk in these things then I don't know, its going to be harder to find a manual.

05? I was talking about the year of the truck I was looking at, they have used these transmissions for quite a few years now.

Oh I did, 3 times actually lol. I kicked it down a few times to see how it reacted and I didn't really notice anything I would consider unusual. Im not familer how the autos in these normally act and respond to really know if its 100 percent good.

My "O/D" light started flashing once, at about 150,000 km (~90,000 miles).

Even while it was flashing, the shifts didn't feel any different, and there were no noticeable drivability issues.

This was about 1 1/2 years ago, and it happened when it was wet/slippery out.

I took the truck to a tranny shop, and they said that the codes showed that there was a problem in the 2 -3 shift range.

They told me that a re-build woudl be in the $2,000 (CDN) range, and that that was the only way that I could ensure that the condition would not recur.

Since it was due for a tranny filter change, I just had them do that and also flush out the system, and clear the codes.

When it is wet/slippery out, I take it extra easy on the gas, easing up and paying special attention when the tranny reaches the 2- 3 shift point, since it was under these conditons that the O/D light started flashing.

The "O/D" light flashing has not occured again, and I've put on almost another 150,000 km.

BTW, tranny filter and fluid are changed every 50,000 km (30,000 miles).

First have the codes read - but it could just be that you only need a filter and fluid change.
