hey yall, the truck is stuck in 4x4 low. and it seems that the a.b.s. is stuck or something. Earlier i was thinking i could do it myself, but i better go by AAMCO and see what's up.

about the incident:(no camera as of now)
as i came over a hill i hit some ice. there is no weight in the bed. Started sliding, wasnt going fast. Hit the pole on the front right corner. headlight and foglight gone, and bye bumper, and the hood is bent-ish. slight concussion to top it off. could be worse i guess.

Did you put it in neutral first.

 

negative but i dont really remember putting it in low. it was in 4high before the ice.
i may have thought that it was not in 4hi and i flicked it to low.

 

Well to get it out and in to 4 low it has to be in neutral.

 

Your truck will not go into 4lo unless you stop,put it in neutral,have the brake peddle depressed,and flick the switch.

 

yeah. sometimes it takes my truck about 5 seconds before it will switch

 

Thats normal goin from 2wd to 4lo

 

yeah it worked fine everytime before. i looked at the one connector but tomorrow im going to look at the rest and clean/grease them.
any suggestions about the brakes. abs light is on

 

You probably damaged the wire giong to the sensor for the abs. If all else fails pull the shift motor of and turn the shaft to get it out of 4 lo

 

ive always wondered what happens if you try to go into 4lo while in drive and going slow. i thought it would just stay in hi.
ive always liked a manual t-case more than the push and pray

 

The sudden stop associated with the utility pole probably damaged or disconnected and ABS sensor on that side of the truck. Hopefully finding it and plugging it back in will fix that.

The transfer case's electric shift motor tends to be the bain of everyone's existence at some point in life. If you follow the proper shifting procedures and it still won't shift, check the connection behind the switch and at the transfer case. In my personal experience stuck on a beach with the truck in 4lo, beating on the transfer case with a tire iron not only relieved stress but it made it shift.

Then i can get home to focus on the body damage.

This is really my first accident and I was thinking i was not going to report it to my insurance.
Whats your opinion on that?

 

I wouldn't if I were you. You're going to have to pay the deductable anyway so the insurance won't make this a free fix. Then you have to factor in how much your rates are going to go up for crashing. It will likely be cheaper to pay for the repairs yourself. Your insurance rates will go up so high, it will cost you more by reporting it.

or you can disconnect the wires then undo 3 bolts, remove the little motor, and turn with a pair of pliers. a little better method in my opinion.

 

That's great if you happen to have a tool box with you. In the absence thereof, beating the crap out of it killed two birds with one stone
