this doesnt pertain to the ranger with a 4.0L, but my mom has an '05 explorer (4.0L/auto) and she and my sister ('02 V6 mustang/5speed/flows/MAC intake) hit it from a start and my mom stayed with the stang untill 50mph when they both gave up.. it's a potent engine, you just have to lay into it with your right foot to get the best of it, they dont really have low-end torque like an OHV would, it's all up there in the powerband.

Does the explorer have Auto 4x4??

My moms 04 explorer does, as soon as it senses the rear tires slipping or spinning, the front 4x4 kicks in. This would help tremendously, as there would be no traction issues with the auto 4x4.....Sometimes i wish i could just turn it off.....lol

How fast? Fast enough fer me.. If you're buying a pickup truck to 'go fast', you're buying the wrong vehicle for the wrong reasons!

yea from what i've heard stock they can run 1/4 in 15, probably give a little. and as for 0-60, best i've gotten in my truck was about 8, that was just me messing around timing it and running on 31s with a 3.55 back end, so theres room for improvement.

Nah, just 4x2, I think it has traction control though. The next time I get ahold of it i'll have to play around with it Now I did drive a new '06 ranger 4x2 4.0L/auto a couple of months ago and I'll have to say it wasnt as quick off the line as the 3.0L/5speed STX that I drove was, but i hear those 4.0L's need some break in time to really feel the power.

The 4.0 is way super crazy fast. I heard the 1/4 mile was like 5.2 seconds.

....give or take 10 seconds.

I think a 2wd LS (207hp/238tq) runs the 1/4 mile in about 15.2 and 0-60 in 7.2... Or so I thought I saw some where. Pretty peppy for a truck, I think stock a S10 with a 4.3L (180hp/250tq) runs it in about 16.5 with a 8.8 0-60.

i ran 16.2 or 16.5 in pure stock form with my tool box on the bed[50 Lbs]. I have 4.10's and LS. I did the body lift and 33's, and was running 17.5. then after playing with my lauch RPM's and the 4wd, and shift points, i could get it down to 16.7.
Hangover nationals[new years day] i ran am 18.5[No traction for anyone], and that was with the tires spinning down to the 330ft mark. Being sideways past the 60ft was scary though. Then i moved my tol box which probably weighed around 100 then, to the far back, and i ran a 17.7. We were supposed to run a 20.01 dial in, so i could just play around.

edit: I did make it to the 3 last Bracket when the track started the eliminations that day. And there was close to 300 cars at the begining

Well...yalls should know how fast it is...w/o bringing it to a track. Fast enough to get ya to the Boars Nest to see that mighty fine Daisy Duke and her DDs.

All I got to say, is if you want a fast ranger, say byebye to your 4.0L SOHC, and swap in a '03 4.6L 32V Supercharged Cobra engine(only 390hp stock)....b!tches. Say bye bye grocery/dirt getter, say hello to Lightning Bolt!

mmmmmm, oh yes. Time for a change of pants.

The lightning bolt used the Lightning 5.4 V8 and not the 4.6. But in the pic is says 32? Valve?
