if you havent done at tune up i would suggest E3 diamond fire spark plugs. i put them on and on this tank of gas i have already got 20 more miles than normal. I also removed the air silencer (there is a how to on this) and put a drop in k&N filter.

 

its all about how you drive.

if i drive my ranger hard, ill get 14ish.
if i drive it easy, calm...like an old man 18ish.

the way you drive your vehicle has sooo much to do with what kinda mpg's you get. it really does. every tank i tend to try a different kinda driving style...weather its the way i accelerate or the speed i go on the freeway...i change it up till i find what works. AND consistancy is importaint too.

E3 diamond fires are pieces of crap. Don't buy them.

 

Full tune up (plugs, wires, air & fuel filter, PCV, etc.), install hard low rolling resistance tires, tonneau cover, minimize idle time, & hyper-mill big time. But exactly how much any of that will help - if any of that helps at all - sorry, your mileage will vary.

 

I'm getting 14 mpg in my 3.0, so lets just say, I dont wanna hear it! BUY A PRIUS! and then you wont have that problem..

 

 

I drive my ranger every other week and alternate between it and my moms cavalier...the cavvy gets 28mpg compared to my 18 in the truck. Id love to drive the truck everyday but commuting to school 60 miles round trip monday through friday is killing me

 

I drove my truck round trip 130 miles 3 times a week to college. It was cheaper then rent, only like $220 in fuel each month.

 

Itd be fine if i got hours every week, but i dont. Penn state pays well but they hire to many people and give hours to the people that just started compared to the people who have been there for years.

 

I dunno - I'm thiking I need to burn more fuel in my truck. I wonder if I can stuff a Triton V10 into my Ranger... ;-)

 

why not stick an aston martin, or ferarri v12 in it?

buy a b18, then you can get good gas mileage, while sounding lame with your fart can (:

 

Funny that motor stock has more power then your 3.0 lmfao, to the op try and find gas without ethanol, it is about the only thing beside weight reduction and tire size that will make a difference.

 

I have a 93 3.0 4x4 5spd. and I get 22mpg combo driving no problem.

 

I drove from the Toronto area to the Woodward Dream Cruise in Royal Oak Michigan and made 31mpg (Cdn miles per gallons) or roughly 26 US mpg with a 4L V6 auto.

Wanna know the secret?? It's the quality of the gas...look for gas that contains no ethanol. Ethanol contains 33% less energy than gasoline and it kills your mileage. Trust me, I've tried every gas available and only the gasoline with 0 ethanol gives good mileage.

 

Ethanol treatment might work. And for sure run a can of seafoam in the engine. Get all that crap outa there that is "gumming" up your engine.

 

the best i've gotten in a while is 15.8mpg but thats also not account for the fact that im going farther than my odometer says i am.

but honestly for the 4.0 efan and intake will help alot.

 

always change your air filter, it's like 20% or more of your fuel economy.

Like these guys said, these trucks dont get great mileage.

Mine will get 21-22 on a highway, at 55-59 mph. Use the cruise alot and keep the RPMS 2000 and under.

If you drive that way, you will achieve your best fuel economy. I thing I saw an increase when I changed my oil to synthetic, and axels to new synthetic. I could have just been thinking I did though.

Tonneau cover added 40 miles per tank when I first got the truck.

Smaller tires.

These are a few things that work, fuel additives, and stuff like that I have never had any luck with.

you should just buy yourself a 7.3 turbo diesel. A buddy of mine was getting 26mpg's and he had 35's ...he then bought a 10inch lift and put ridiculously wide tires under it and no the thing just pisses diesel out of the exhaust...

 

never heard of anyone buying a 4x4 for the mileage

 

1990 ford ranger 6 inch lift 32 inch tires 4x4 w/ 3:55 gears autoshmatic,i get a solid 12mpg out of a fresh motor and i baby the hell out of it,i know of bad *** f150s that get better mpg's :(
