K&N Cold Air Intake Review

This is for my 2011 Ford Ranger Sport 4.0 SOHC. Product does provide a difference. Throttle response, acceleration, engine noise and exhaust note all have improved. I’ve noticed slight mpg and a bit more scoot when flooring it.

Down side. When stopped and at idle, it sucks in the surrounding engine bay temperature. I have a live reading and states 120-130 degrees. The stock box provided 100-110. When driving, I’m a steady 80-90. I live in Florida. The radiator fan blows hot air right into that direction above the heat shield when hood is closed. I may stick an industrial strip of foam on the hood that sits flush against the top of the heat shield.

Over all, very satisfied. Next week, I have a shop installing a Gibson cat-back exhaust.

I’m not looking for a 0-60 improvement. Do not buy if you think it’ll shave 3 seconds off.

What i did back in 2005 when mine was new, i drilled a second intake pipe and screwed a 1 1/4 pvc male adapter to give the stock box additional intake. It faces forward toward the grille.
