cold air question
just wondering if anyone has ever heard of this but my cousin tryed it and he says it works and i was thinking of tryin it.
but i read that instead of purchasing a whole new intake system with the filter and hose and everything, but what i heard is just opening the top and removing the old box filter and just replacing it with a new round filter and leaving the top open and attaching it to the stock hose intake
didnt know if anyone has heard of this but from what i've heard it works

Just do the airbox mod if you don't want to spend too much money.

If you want to buy the whole intake system look at Volant. The K&N FIPK isn't a very good system.

Yeah, he is oposed to almost ever "performance" mod available for the Ranger.
But i do agree with him here, the way you have the intake tube bent back further into the engine bay, it is only going to be getting hot air from the engine. You want that filter as far as possible from the engine!
Hot air = less dense = richer mixture = less performance

I'm all for aftermarket performance parts. But to say you'll increase mpg is not correct. This will not happen.
If a guy wants to increase mpg you gotta put less fuel into the engine.
And a way to do that is to add warm/hot air. Not cold.

so basically by letting the engine run efficiently through cais, exhaust, chips, and what have you, you use less gas hence better mpgs.

this is true. however the way you ascertain better mpgs through putting less gas in the engine is done by helping the engine run more efficiently.
