louder exhaust
louder exhaust
i was just wondering if anyone has any quick, cheap tips to make an exhaust a little louder...i alredy have an exhaust system on my truck but want to make it just a tad louder
i just had a few idea's....would drilling holes in the pipes make it any louder
or anither idea was i have 4 cats on mine, how much of a change would it make if i just toke off one of the cats and was left with only 3.

pull the cats. if you lose power you won't notice it unless you are on a dyno. if you still have mufflers then you will still have back pressure. which i still don't believe that back pressure is good.
Back pressure helps pull the exhaust gasses from the cylinders. So the exhaust pulses act like a vacuum as they exit the exhaust system. Turbo cars can run a straight pipe because the turbo itself acts as a vacuum.
Yeah peak power. When you are that high at of an RPM back pressure doesn't matter as much. Low RPM is where it matters.
Buy a muffler and have it custom installed. That's what I'm doing. Get yourself a Magnaflow single in/dual out, and take it to an exhaust shop. Have them bend all the tubing. Shouldn't cost mroe than 2-300 bucks and it won't sound ricey.
I have a 2.5 SI/ 2.2.5 DO muffler, and the tips are 2.5 in and 3 inch diameter. They are 18 inch long stainless magnaflow tips, 15 degree slant, rolled edge. They're nice but costly.
I was hoping to get it on sooner rather than later but I don't think I'll have the spare money for a while

I have a Flowmaster original 40 series, I'll let you have for cheep. Single in, duel out. It was much to loud for me. (But then I'm 70) All the young'uns around here loved it. A few even told me they thought I had a V8 in it. LOL. I had it on my 2002 3.0L for about a year. (roughly 15K miles) Let me know if you're interested. I must warn you though. It did cause the engine to lose a ton of torque on the low end.
Mufflers are on the truck for a reason too. Catalytic converters are on the truck to covert harmful gasses into less harmful gasses, not to increase back pressure.
