here are a few pictures i took when i was under my truck. im not quite sure if thats the oil sending unit or not. the picture is taken of the side of my oil pan. Also, i need to take off my fan. Are the only things keeping it on those bolts on the backside of it? i tried looking up these two things in the haynes manual but i couldnt find them in the glossary & the front so im confused.

The oil sending unit i purchased for my 93 ford ranger - its the long one not the short one (i dunno which one is right so i chose one in hope):

im not sure where the oil pressure sending unit is on the 4.0, im going to assume its on the block somewhere.

the thing you took a picture of is the fluid level sensor.

The oil pressure sender is in the side of the block and goes in the oil galley. The sender in the side of the pan may be the oil temp gauge sender or low oil light sender that is in some engines.

Any sender in the pan will not be an oil pressure sender.

No, their the internal passageways within the engine block that carry oil under pressure from the pump.

your picture is of the low oil light sender , the cracks in the fan are normal and I have seen many (mine ) go for years without any fragging.
There is a special tool to remove the fan , you will not get it off any other way , as it is also reverse thread .

Agreed. It's the same with 3.0 vs 4.0. What applies to one doesn't apply to the other.

I agree, the cracks in the fan are normal, every ranger that I've looked at that wasn't fairly new has had them. My old '89 had that and with over 200,000 miles, fhe fan didn't fail until I wrecked the truck.

i herd that having a cracked fan creates an off balance spin which inevitable wears away at the water pump. Also, i found my oil sending unit. the picture is not it. it was covered in mud and i couldnt see it. now its all good and working! WoOt!
