i need seriouse help getting mpgs up
im have a 4.0 v6 33000 miles on it
new plugs wires
cold air intake
flowmaster
31inch m/t
and im getting about 13-15 mpgs
its killing me
what can i do to get it up a bit with out getting a chip or tuner
cause i dont wanna sell the truck but i might be forced to trying to cause i cant afford gas .
so lets here some ideas

 

what kind of gears are you runnin??? not doin john force take offs at every intersection helps with mpgs

 

no clue bout what gears and i tryed that its hard but i dont ussaly

losing m/t's would help. I get 12-20 on average but i try to keep it around 2000 rpm when im regular driving

regear to 3.55....go to stock tires...carpool......

 

ummm a tuner would really help....e-fan supposedly good for 2 mpg...fuel filter???

 

I got a buddy with 3.55 LS 8.8 axle i bet he would trade strat up for your 4.10 LS.....that would save some gas on highway

 

i hardly ever drive on the high way

 

IMHO, if you want mileage you got the wrong vehicle.

In the winter my truck goes form 15-16 to 11-12. The efan on my truck made zero improvement for mileage. It did help the ac get colder when not moving tho.

 

im might be doing the volkswagon+99 cent mod

 

hmmm maybe I should get an e-fan for that reason. My a/c starts blowing hot air after it sits for awhile

 

best advise i can give you from being in the same position is drive less :P and make sure your tires are inflated right

i know it sounds dumb, but if your careful the gas stretches longer. you dont really wanna be in a neon anyway, not to save 30 bucks a month.

the biggest thing for me is staying off the gas. its hard not to abuse the revs available, but just drive like an old man/woman/person(for you pc folk)

 

Don't forget braking hard uses more gas, so drive easier on take offs and slow downs

If you jam on the brakes then need to speed back up because you slowed down too much.

This is more of a packed highway situation, or where people turn in front of you often.

Doesn't really apply to stopping for lights and such.

 

If your looking for an immeadiate and low cost fix there really isn't anything other than slightly over inflating the tires and driving style. The more you push that brake pedal.. the more gas you've wasted.

Now if your in this truck for the long haul and want to save money **in the long run**.

Crank underdrive pulley, Tune, rear gears, & Reducing weight are the top four that will pay off in time. But your looking at 75k+ miles for them to pay you back in savings.

From a milage only standpoint.. e-fan is not worth it, Exhaust is not worth it, CAI is not worth it

For what it's worth.. On my 06 FX4 I've done, K&N CAI, aftercat magnaflow, Bama X-cal, crank underdrive, e-fan, & run my stock tires 3-5psi over inflated. I drive easy most of the time in 50/50 city/hwy traffic. Given all this I average in the 21-22 area. It'll get up around 23-24 on freeway trips too.

But I've also spent a lot of money getting here. And since I plan on running this truck to 150k+ miles it will "pay off". Honestly though, milage improvements are only 1/2 the reason I did all that.

You've **burned gas** to accelerate the mass to a velocity. Anytime you hit the brake you've just negated that gas you burned. Period.

If you want to maximize milage.. coast to a stop. And when in traffic don't hit your brakes. Drive far enough back that you never have to touch the brake pedal.

ditch the truck. trucks are not made to get great mpg numbers. no matter what you do you will not get over 20.

if you still want to keep it take as much weight off the truck as possible, run a nice car like tire, get a bed cap, drive like an old grandma, run alot of air in the tires.

 

your not driving it right. iv showed my wife how to drive it soft and she only gets in the low teens for milage, i can get it up to arount 17-18 with 50 offroad/30 town/ 20 hwy. i get in the high 18's to low 20's going over the mountains, and 20's when its only on the hwy

 

Oh ya and i only have a dirty drop in k&n and 31" mud tires. i also have the truck loaded w/ a couple of extra hundred pounds
