Need help finding intake hose

Need help finding intake hose

Recently bought a pretty neglected 09 4.0 SOHC Ranger, was going over all basic maint. like fluids and air filter when I noticed a tube running off of the Intake that leads into the engine that had been cut in half and half effort taped back together. I can’t seem to find this particular hose anywhere online in any diagram or anything. No part number that I can see on it. Any help would be appreciated! Pics include said hose that was cut and the port in the engine that the other half was kind of just resting in

Welcome to the forum!

Does the area where it connects to the engine feel oily? Does the hose smell like oil?
If I'm a betting man, I'd say that's your PCV (Positive Crankcase Ventilation) Hose.
This hose takes blowby gasses from combustion and puts 'em back into the engine to burn off any remaining hydrocarbons. EPA stuff from way back.
Take a quick look on RockAuto and I'm sure you'll find what you're looking for!

Thank you so much!! I’m pretty new to the Ranger scene but I’ve always loved them and this is definetly a passion project for me that I plan on rebuilding from the ground up. I was kinda nervous coming on here to ask a simple dumb question but you were super helpful so again thank you!!

How many miles are on this "pretty neglected 2009"?
Where did it live? A few details help paint a better picture.

That tube carries filtered air into the engine. The PCV system continues from there by sucking out the nasty crankcase fumes.

The PCV valve is on the other side's -the left side or driver's side ALWAYS- valve cover. The parts listing shows the 2009 has an electrically controlled PCV valve.
The older "spring loaded" PCV valve, like I have, is located at the rear surface of the left side (driver's side) valve cover. They should be changed as they get gunked up.
In the older style, the spring weakens or breaks. I don't know if the electric ones can be cleaned.
From the PCV valve, the voided crankcase gasses go through a large L-shaped, hard plastic hose across to the right side of the engine (running parallel to the firewall) then turns 90 degrees and goes forward to the intake manifold.
It's all very tightly fitted and hard to see. Sometimes it's easier to see OUT OF glaring sunlight.

The L-shaped hose is made of thinner (cheaper) material than the broken short hose you pictured. It perishes with time.
There's no reason to assume your "neglected Ranger" had any PCV maintenance so inspect thoroughly. Refreshing any of it is no big deal.
Buy that hose if it's still available or fix it with tubing over it.
Inspect or change your PCV valve as it's likely ancient and inoperative.
Give everything an inch-by-inch inspection with your bare hands.
