OIL

Hey everyone,
I'm thinking about a full synthetic oil when I get ready for my 1st oil change. My ? is, should I wait till a few oil changes before I go to a full synthetic & if so how many miles should be on the motor before changing to a full synthetic? I'm not racking up very many miles yet only have a little over 300 on it. I've been dealing with kidney stones latley. no fun! Thanks for any help , James

I really think how you run the truck is dependent on using a synthetic. If you run the truck for 5 minutes to work and shut it off, there is still moisture in your engine, it won't get warm enough day to day to evaporate it out of the oil. For that I'd use the syn blend like Stone said and change it every 3000 miles. If you run it for at least 25+ minutes one way to work you'll get most of the moisture out of it, so you can keep your oil longer, using a full synthetic with a longer drain interval, like 7500 miles or more.

I've done this on several cars/trucks. IMO get at least 2500 miles on it before switching over.

In truth 80% of the wear and rings seating happens before the truck ever left the factory. That first 1 minute of engine operation is where the real seating takes place.

2500 miles or the first change is fine.

And when you swap in that full synthetic when your truck is ready, go for a K&N oil filter.

Or a Mobil1 oil filter, its the same filter internally, manufactured by the same company (Usually $3 or $4 cheaper too, unless that 1" nut is worth the $3 extra to you). Their part number system is also the same, M1-101 = HP1001.
