Penny in a tin can???
Penny in a tin can???
Does anyone get a noise coming from their truck while they are driving that sounds just like...well the title....a penny in a tin can. Its not the timing chain noise either i know that one and its around 2500 RPM this is just when im say driving a steady 50mph i can hear it. It is never consitant...you never know if it will make the noise or not, but usually it does.
Any ideas?

I haven't heard this noise on a Ranger but there was a post over on the CrownVic forums and the guy even made a sound clip of it. It ended up being his catalytic converter. I'll try and see if I still have the clip saved and post it...see if it sounds the same.

That noise sounds like what Rangeredge02 suggested.....The catalytic converter....My brother had that problem on a Mazda MX6 Turbo.....It turned out to be the shield on the catalytic converter.
I agree, it's prob. the heat shield on the cat(s). Check them out when the truck is cooled down. I had the same problem on my 90 Ranger, after rewelding them a couple times I just said screw it and pryed them off.
