I believe the SCT programmer for Rangers is the X-Cal 2; the X-Cal 3 is for the '05 and up Mustang.

I think I might have asked this before but is the computer for the transmission on a 98 flashable (automatic), and what exactly can you adjust on the transmission. I am looking at the X-cal 2

But can you control how easily the transmission kicks down?

Xcal 2 is still available, the Xcal 3 is the newest edition of it and both are available
Best bet is to get custom tunes and the X2/X3 work on all 1996 and newer ford vehicles
Below is some info-2 links from troyer performance(the wonderfull guys that custom tuned my X3 for my 07 F150-well worth the wait and money)
X3

X2

Canned tunes can not compare to custom tunes and is the best way to go IMO

I dont know about canned tunes, but with custom tunes if you are driving normal the shifts are slightly firmer but not much over stock, the faster you accelerate the firmer the shift
