Race: New Taco PreRunner, 03 Mustang GT and my Ranger!

Ok so im at a intersection where 3 lanes merge into two after probably 300 feet or so. So I see a new taco going around wide open everywhere and finally I caught him at the perfect light. I see a car to the left of him and figured I'd give him a good race. So the light turns green, I ease into the peddle before going all in to prevent tire squeel. I instantly pull away to where his front bumper meets my fuel door. I dont gain much on him, slowly I do but I soon start running out of room. I look over and the mustang is wide open and its front bumper is about a foot or so ahead of the tacos. I eventually run out of room and hit the brakes so I dont go into a sidewalk and do some damage. Then I get behind the taco and follow them to the next light where the taco turns left and the mustang is right infront of me. Little did I know that Mustang was a Mustang GT (auto like me and the taco) and that he was unable to pull on us.

However I must say, them tacos haul ***. I was suprised at that mustang GT, I really cant decide how into it he was, I really thought he had to be going for it cause I really cant see the race being that close if he wasnt.

Man oh man do I ever want to get some more performance upgrades. Im running out of things to do though! Efan and pully and coil pack before supercharger. Damn I want more stuff to do!!!!

I've been in a 2002 GT auto... it shoots you back into the seats during shifts. I've been in an auto 4.0 with exhaust and intake... i think the stang was playin with you guys. I bet that was fun as hell though! DId you talk to the tacoma owner or stang owner after?

Sweet, you'll smoke alot of people with the supercharger!

You should do a dyno tune after the EE to get the most out of it.

na I wish I could have. If we had more room I would have pulled on the taco, I really wish the mustang was in my spot so I could see if he was playing or not. I was very excited for the taco though, being the storys of them beating rangers. I need more power!

2001-2004 4 speed AUTO GT = piece of ****. 260hp with a very ****ty trans makes it a crappy "muscle car" especially when its going vs a 245hp(if it was unmodded) Taco and your 4.0

When i was about a day away from buying a 03 GT last year i checked out both (traffic blows ***** in SoCal so id be much nicer to have a DD auto, but 1. i could never get an automadic muscle car and 2. that thing was a complete piece of crap, th 5 speed stick on the other hand... very nice

Ive driven the 5 speed before and it had awesome get up and go. I really think that the mustang 02-03 ( I think ) was giving its all. Just a feeling. I dont think he could have stuck with us when we were at WOT unless he got into it fairly heavy. I heard tacos were really around 245/280 and were underrated, apparently you have too?

I just need someone to donate a supercharger now and im set haha.

Honestly.....the new tacos are slow compaired to the new Frontiers....265hp baby. Like 270 in a pathfinder. Sounded like some fun bud. I'm able to keep up with a prelude, I couldn't believe it. but I'm absolutely no chance for my friend in his srt4.

Close! Mustang, Camaros, and Barracudas (not 'Cuda's) are Pony cars. Nemaed after the mustangs fame, but technically the barracuda was the first by a year. People mistakingly call them muscle cars, cause they think anything from the sixties with a performance engine available was a muscle car, but it wasn't the case.

lol sounds like you had some fun man.. yeah I believe the stang was just messing with you as well.. it's still lighter than your ranger and has 260hp/302tq and the 4-speed auto is just as crappy as the ranger automatic. A 5-speed GT can do 0-60 in the mid-late 5 sec range.. i'd say 6.3-6.5 sec 0-60 with an auto at the worst..

are you freaking kidding me? The v6 is the only chick car stang ever built.. tho i dont even call it a stang personally...

So what makes it a chick car... 4.6/5.4 v8... 260(02 GT)-475(07 Shelby) hp stock... a car that will do 0-60 in 5.1 seconds and only costing 27000 FULLY LOADED? To my knowledge a muscle car was/is a sports car that is fast, bad *** v8 under the hood, and will not break your bank...

I've driven both and the frontier definitely is quicker off the line. I don't know about top end though. Both are fast trucks though.

Yea....one day back when thosetrucks were brand spanking new, I test drove the new frontier, the new taco, a new unlimited rubicon, and a '06 ranger. All were similarly equipped, all manual, all 4x4, with the exception of the frontier being a crew cab. I gotta say....I'm seriously thinking about getting a frontier. Hell....during the test drive of the nissan, the dude let me pin in around town, kicking her sideways as much as possible. Love it.

They are a beast of a motor and truck! However no one seems to suspect a ranger, especially here in arizona where I rarely see a ranger, and when I do its 9 times outta 10 a 4 cyl.

Can you imagine a '02 XL ranger reg cab, with a HO 5.0L and huge mufflers...quietlike, and rolling the stock stupid looking wheels and tires. Best of all it'll be white with all that grey bumpers and grille and such. Add a company logo on the side. For example, R-F Research, etc........FREAKIN' SLEEPER!!!

That would be so sweet. The only thing is, you probably wont be able to make it quiet enough. Put a load speaker under it with a pre recorded ricer engine sound clip, lol...

I had a '02 5spd GT and I took it to the track and ran a 13.8 with only an h-pipe and flowmasters. I bet he was messing with you.

Yah, and then the little 2.3T'd ranger comes up beside it making double the power with less than half the displacement and absolutely rips the other Ranger a new rear end. The sleeper gets put to sleep.
