Ranger 1995 4.0 pcm/ecu removal?
Hi
I have a ranger 1995 4.0 v6, Im swaping a Carb v8 302 5.0 on it. I want to remove the v6 with the ECU (so I can use it for other project). Anyone knows if it will affect the ranger? It only makes run the engine? Or something else?
thank you

Pre-2003 or 4 won't have digital dash so you won't have any problems
Computer ran spark and fuel only, also emissions systems
Oil pressure gauge might be able to be converted to "Real oil pressure gauge"
Look here: How to convert your oil pressure gauge (with pics) - TCCoA Forums
Otherwise you will need to install oil pressure switch on the 5.0l, if it doesn't have one already.
Coolant temp sender should be same reading on gauge, 210degF about 1/2 way
Electric fuel pump in the tank will need to have a pressure regulator installed, one with a return line is best.
Or change pump out for a 7-9psi model
I wouldn't "hot wire" an electric fuel pump, since you are using a carb you can use an oil pressure switch as the Ground for Fuel Pump relay found in the 1995 engine fuse box, Computer Grounded that relay if engine was above 400rpm, that safety feature will be gone
no oil pressure = no power to pump, so in the event of a roll over or accident that breaks a fuel line, engine would stall so no gasoline being pump out until battery dies, lol.
Inertia switch is fine, but that doesn't always trip
I would hate to be "cooked" in a simple fender bender
1995 speedometer is electric so the trans you use will need gear driven speedometer cable hook up, and you would use Ford gear driven VSS, you should have that in current transmission and it can be transfer over
These VSS/Speedo setups were used from around 1988 to 1997 on Rangers, 1996 on other Ford transmissions
V8 trans may have different Drive Gear(worm gear on output shaft), so you may need to change the Driven Gear to calibrate speedometer, not a big deal
