reliability

i am looking to buy an 03ish ranger 4x4 with the 4.0 motor. im not really worried about putting any power adders on it like supercharger or better manifolds, things of that nature thats why i am saving up for my 03 svt cobra any ways, how reliable are these trucks overall i mean i know i am going to have to maintain it breaks suspension oil changes etc. i just dont want to have to worry about replacing heads, trannys, all that stuff. andone more thing how are the 4 wheel drive systems? thanks guys

I had a 2004 ranger 4x4 with the 4.0 V6. Lots of power for a V6 and did anything I ever wanted of it and it took whatever I through at it. Ive loaded it down with wood in the bed to it be dragging and didnt even know it was there. Kept up on maintanance and never had a problem withit. Great little beast until it hit 30K miles and I had slight problem with driving/parking-long story short I no longer have the little beast. I highly recommend getting one, great little truck, just make sure you go ext. cab with the 4.0 V6 and 4x4.

Its a ford man! And that is saying something.... A 4.0 will handle quite a bit of after market power. A S/C will net u atleast 100hp/100tq to the crank if not more. Add full exhaust, new gears and a limited slip and you got an easy 13 second truck.
