RPM Limit in P/N
RPM Limit in P/N
I have a '04 4.0 4x4 Ranger. It was parked for almost a month during our vacation. When I started it when we got home, it had a slight miss, and when I drove it, it started jerking like it had a major miss. I got it back home an in the garage, so I thought I would see if it missed badly while in park. The engine spun up very smooth, until it got to 3,000 rpm. The it started acting like it was hitting a rev limiter. Does this both in P and N. Does anybody know if there is a rev limiter doing this? Also, I bought a bottle of fuel injection cleaner, dumped it in tank, and the truck drives good without the jerking. Another thing a friend thought, sitting so long, and the weather here in Indiana getting well below zero, I might have gotten a little condensation in the tank. Anybody have any ideas.
Yep, that's the limiter.
+1, yes REV limiter in P and N
Run some 5%-10% ethanol fuel next time, that will clean out any water(condensation).
If you are in a cold climate area most fuel will already have that mix to prevent freezing fuel lines.
