My dad had a 2004 Ford Ranger XLT with 4.0L SOHC. My dad passed away 5 years ago and my mom didn't want to sell the truck because it was very special to my dad so we put it in storage with only sporadic use over last 5 years. Recently I got the truck out to use it and when I went to fill up with gas I found that the gas pump handle was shutting off every couple seconds. It took me over 20 minutes to 8 gallons of fuel in the truck. After some Google searching I decided to take a look at the evap canister, but while the evap canister seems simple enough to come out I cannot figure out how to get the hose to disconnect from the EVAP. I tried to use a Ford fuel release tool that my dad had, but although I can get the tool inside of the fitting it does not appear to release the line from the evap canister - I posted a picture of the fitting below. Any help with getting this line off the evap canister without cutting the line off would be appreciated Connection to the evap canister
The 90deg part stays on canister
The hose comes off
Looks like the hose is the clip type, has a "U" shaped clip the pulls out to release the hose from the 90deg fitting
Turn the hose and put a small screwdriver blade under the clip, lift it up then pull it out, push the hose towards the 90deg fitting as you pry it up
The clips can break, Dorman has replacements
Ford Rangers, all vehicles, have a Filler hose(for gas going in) AND a Vent hose(to let air out as gas goes in)
